Behavior Change Strategies for Long-Term Impact and Weight Management Success

Nutrition is a key component of working with clients whose goals include weight management. However, working with clients to manage their weight goes beyond nutrition. Successful clients, and coaches/trainers, know that behavior change strategies are key when promoting long-lasting change. Data from the National Weight Control Registry and Precision Nutrition suggests that when coaches teach crucial skills and help clients practice foundational behaviors regularly, they can transform their bodies, habits and lives in significant ways.

In this 2-hour course, you’ll go beyond food logs to learn effective and essential behaviors that help clients achieve and maintain a healthy weight, along with WHY those behaviors work and HOW to coach them. You’ll learn how to apply a “goals-skills-practices-actions” framework, prioritize what to work on first, and what to do when encountering obstacles in the process. We’ll also look at a “deep health” approach that goes beyond quick fixes to meaningful, sustainable, “whole body, whole person, whole life” changes—built from small, simple daily actions

Led by Jennifer Broxterman, MSc, RD, Registered Dietitian & Sports Nutrition, Founder of NutritionRx and nutrition content writer for Precision Nutrition, this course will provide real-life applications you can use to help clients with weight loss, weight gain or managing healthy eating patterns for long-term success. Having worked with thousands of clients, ranging from exercise enthusiasts to professional athletes, like NHL hockey players and Olympic athletes, Jennifer will share how she encourages people to build a happy and healthy relationship with food through behavior change.

Upon completion, you will be able to:

• Apply an effective, trusted, systematic, practice-based coaching process to helping clients change

• Identify which weight management behaviors to work on with clients, and why those matter

• Effectively work through client resistance in the face of change, along with practical setbacks and challenges

• Assess, set goals, monitor, and evaluate client progress in ways that push for change without overwhelming clients

• Apply a client-centered approach to weight change and management, to help boost clients’ self-direction and accountability
